Sonnmatt Lucerne has several projects and initiatives that care for the environment and make a positive contribution to the natural and social surroundings.
Over recent years, Sonnmatt Lucerne has gradually switched over to LED light. We have already replaced 80 per cent of all lamps. This has resulted in huge energy savings and lower, environmentally-friendly heat emissions, and has meant that our lights do not attract as many insects. At night, an automatic light controller also saves energy in the lighting of public spaces.
Electric vehicle charging station
It has been possible to charge electric vehicles at Sonnmatt since the start of 2020. This means that we are making a small contribution to a more environmentally friendly world, and hope that the demand for the electric vehicle charging station will continue to increase.
Gas heating and boiler
Sonnmatt Lucerne uses environmentally friendly gas heating. In the main building, the heating is automatically turned down when the windows are opened. This saves energy, avoids excessively dry air and is good for the health. The hot water boiler is heated using energy recovery from cold rooms, refrigerators and chiller cabinets.
Swimming pool with ozone
The water in the indoor pool is cleaned using ozone. This method has the benefit that it is more environmentally friendly, and safer and better for the skin. A little bit of chlorine is added to the water, but only the minimum amount required by law.
Chestnut grove
Sonnmatt Lucerne supports the “Pro Kastanie” reforestation project to boost the number of chestnut trees in central Switzerland, and planted a chestnut grove in 2008. Sweet chestnut trees were common in central Switzerland until the 17th century. They were often a source of food for poor people. Ask about the grove in reception; it is in a clearing above the health resort.
New equipment
Whenever Sonnmatt Lucerne buys new equipment, we check the energy consumption and environmental data. We opt for environmentally-friendly, energy-efficient devices, even if they are a bit more expensive to buy. The quality of the equipment is also important to us. The longer it lasts, the better this is for the environment.
Kitchen
Thanks to a fat separation system and the composting of kitchen waste, Sonnmatt Lucerne is able to generate and recycle energy.
Nature & Economics
The Natur & Wirtschaft Stiftung [Nature & Economics Foundation] promotes nature in residential areas. It rewards exemplary areas and environmental planning in the categories companies, residential, school, private gardens and the gravel sector.
We were pleased to accept a certificate from the foundation at the end of 2019.
